Recommended Bike Rack Mounting Options For A 2021 Airstream Caravel
Question:
I’m looking for front mounted bike rack for 2-4 bikes on a 2021 airstream 16’ Caravel that can detach and be mounted onto the back of our SUV with a standard 2” hitch. What are our best options? We currently do not have ebikes heavier, but are looking.

You would be able to use the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers - 2"-100lbs # CC-275 to mount a bike rack to but you would be limited to its 100lb weight capacity. Normally I would recommend installing an adjustable trailer hitch receiver on the trailer but the bumper on the rear of the 2021 Airstream Caravel sits so far out that you most likely wouldn't be able to install a bike rack on it without using a hitch extender, which would drop the capacity of the hitch by 50%.
You can use the # CC-275 and a bike rack like the Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Fixed Base # S63381, which has a per bike weight capacity of 35lbs. Keep in mind this rack weighs 32lbs so you'd only have 68lbs left of the # CC-275's capacity. This rack can easily be switched over to your SUV's 2" receiver hitch as well.
Depending on your SUV you may also be able to install a front mounted hitch and would be able to then install a 4-bike rack or heavier duty e-bike rack like the Yakima HoldUp EVO Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount
Item # Y02479-2. This rack has a per bike weight capacity of 50lbs. This is your best option if you want to haul four bikes. If you reply back with the year/make/model of your SUV I can find the correct front mounted hitch for you.
