Wire Gauge and Circuit Breaker Needed for 12 Volt Accessory Circuit on 2007 Ford Expedition

Question:

I just got a 2007 Ford Expedition. It was factory wired with a 4-pin connector. Ive installed a brake controller and a 4-pin to 7-slat adapter. And I got some good help from Charlene C earlier this week. Everything is working fine except Ive yet to run the line between the battery and the adapter that will send 12-V power to my pop-up. I was not sure what gage wire, and circuit breaker to use. Some one referenced your web page [www.etrailer.com/faq-brakecontroller.aspx] Which appears to show a 40 Amp breaker. Assuming that is correct what size wire do I run? Given the size butt connector on the adapter I got from you Id assume 12 or 10 gage, but 40 Amps seems like a lot of current for even a 10 gage wire. But then you are the expert, not me. In summary in running power from my auto to my pop-up what size breaker and wire do i run between the battery and the 4 to 7 pin adapter?

You had it right, the 40 amp Inline Circuit Breaker, part # 9150 is what you need. We recommend using at least a 12 gauge wire for this circuit. You can certainly use 10 gauge if you wish.
