Towing Capacity of 2015 Toyota Highlander and Brake Controller for It
Question:
I purchased an used travel trailer Safari Condo R1723 with UVW 1827#, GVWR 2700#, tongue weight 210#. It came with a Fastway E2 Trunnion WD already installed. I know the 2015 LE PLUS only has a 2000lb tow capacity as-is. 1 should I continue to use the E2? 2 can I backup with the spring bars installed? 3 should I remove the spring bars if I am going in and out of driveways that have incline of varying degrees. 4 the system came with 2 L-brackets and a L-pinmore like J-pin,rather long, that keep the spring bar in place. Do I need to buy the more current L-pins instead? without even installing the spring bars, the bottom of the J-pins scraps going out of parking lot that has a slight incline 5 do I need to add a transmission fluid cooler? 6 the trailer has electric brake and I am planning to add a brake controller, any recommendations?

With any weight distribution system you have to be careful when backing up that you do so mostly straight if you want to keep the bars hooked up. If you end up needing to turn the trailer when reversing you'll have to disconnect the bars to prevent damage. If the current brackets are working fine there's no reason to have to replace what you have.
So your trailer has a GVWR of 2,700 which would be 700 lbs over the towing capacity you listed for your 2015 Toyota Highlander of 2,000 lbs. So you'd need to keep the trailer under 2,000 lbs to be safe and an addition of a transmission cooler would not increase that figure.
For a brake controller the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180 would work great. This is a wireless brake controller that only needs to plug into an active 7-way and once synced to a smart phone is ready to tow with. If your vehicle only has a 4-way now you'd just need to convert it to a 7-way with the # ETBC7L and you'd be set.
