To get your 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander set up to tow a trailer with brakes, you will need a few things. We do have all these things and I did include a few install videos for you to check out, so let's get into it.

First you will need a 4 Flat, like the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118518. If you already have a 4 Flat, you can skip to the next part, but if you do not, it will be required. This will supply the needed power to the turn signal, brake lights, and running lights and get you 1/3rd of the way there.

Next you will need to upgrade the 4 Flat to a 7 Way. For this you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will piggyback off the 4 Flat, but you will need to run a few wires up to the battery and cab of the vehicle to get it up and running. It will include all the needed wiring, circuit breakers, brackets, and the 7 Way plug, which does also have a 4 Flat plug on the side so you will not need an adapter if you every pull a smaller trailer that doesn't have brakes. Once this is all run, you can move on to the next part.

As to the final part; the brake controller. We do have a lot of options for these, but the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR is one that I highly recommend and would be the controller I would go with if I had the need for one. Once installed, only the adjustment/manual override knob will visible so it has a super clean look. It can also handle up to 6 brake assemblies (3 axles) and will work with electric or electric over hydraulic brake systems, so its versatile.
