Comparing Aftermarket Trailer Hitch to Factory Hitch for 2021 Subaru Forester
Question:
I want to add a hitch to my 2021 Forester. I was looking at the Subaru factory hitch as well as the hitches you have available. Is there are reason to get one of the hitches you have instead of the factory hitch aside from the lower price? I usually go with factory products but I'm not sure.

I took a look at the factory hitch for the 2021 Subaru Forester and it looks like it has a 1-1/4" receiver. This is going to limit your options when it comes to accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers when compared to a 2" receiver. It is for that reason that I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C47HR.
This Class III hitch has a 2" receiver and will be perfect for any accessories or towing you plan to do. It features a concealed cross tube so it will maintain a factory look and also has a limited lifetime warranty. The Curt hitch has a bolt-on installation so no welding is required.
If you plan on doing some light towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467. This plugs into existing wiring in the rear cargo area and will give you a 4-way connection at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. For a ball mount, I like the etrailer Ball Mount Kit #989900. This kit comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball, as well as a ball mount bag to store everything in.
