To add a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 to your 2022 Subaru Forester you will need to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. The kit gives you a 7-way that will accept your 4-way that you already have to control the lighting portion. The kit will provide you with the additional wiring needed to add a charge line circuit as well as the brake controller on your Forester.
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is a proportional brake controller that you can customize to your preferences. The LCD screen is easy to read and will also allow you to run diagnostic tests if you have issues with the brakes on your trailer. This controller also comes with the pigtail needed to install on your Forester as well as a removable bracket if you want to remove the controller and store away when it is not needed.
