Troubleshooting Curt Echo Wireless Only Recognizing Trailer Is Connected Every Once In A While
Question:
Interestingly, the brand new Curtis Echo did not function the first time we tried it - bringing the trailer home from the dealer, but it DID work on our way to our first campground. It failed to work again starting with our trip home from that campground and hasnt worked since. All the trailer lights behave appropriately through the Echo - turn signals, brake lights, emergency flashers. Note that the right rear red running light does not work but I dont imagine that should have anything to do with the Echo not recognizing the trailer. Ive reset the unit several times and followed the instructions. This is a small trailer, 2021 Wolf Pup 16he and the tow vehicle is a 2011 Toyota Highlander.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 recognizing your 2021 Wolf Pup 16 HE towed by your 2016 Toyota Highlander.
Since it seems to recognize the trailer every now and then I would check that the 7-way connector on both your Highlander and trailer are free of debris and corrosion that could be causing an issue, and that the pins on the vehicle side 7-way connector are not bent causing them to not connect to the Echo. I would bend the 5 o'clock pin on your vehicle connector out just a little bit and see if that fixed the issue.
You are correct that your running light being out should not have anything to do with the recognition issue.
If the connectors look good then you will want to check the ground wire to your vehicle 7-way connector, and since the lights work correctly check the ground wire to the trailer brake magnets to make sure they did not come loose.
Let me know what you find and we can go into more in-depth troubleshooting if needed.
I included a video review of the # C51180 for you to take a look at.
