Does Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 Require White Background for Sensor

Question:

I installed the sensor and set the home position. While the pedal is in the home position, the LED blinks somewhat randomly. I wouldnt call it a flicker....example: a blink, a pause, then a couple more blinks.....with repetitive pattern. There are no wires or objects in what I consider to be its field of view. Is it trying to tell me that the sensor is not seeing a suitable target? It is aimed at the vinyl-coated insulation on the firewall. It is a relatively large, flat area, and is dark gray/black in color. Do I need a lighter-colored target, or is the random blinking normal?

We've had a few customers that have installed the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 report back to us that they had to paint the firewall area white so that the sensor could see it. So based on the color of yours and what you described I would say that is your issue.
