Correct Electric Trailer Brakes For Dexter 7,000 lb Axle

Question:

I have dexter axles on my 2010 Carriage Cameo 5th Wheel. I believe they are 7000 pound axles, The sticker on the axles identifies them as Dex # 60826 D70. See attached image. I believe I need shoes, DX 28FR and I would like to replace the magnets I believe BP01-225 However, It looks like it is cheaper to buy new brake kits 23-180-181. 2 Questions - Am I correct on the parts I need? Should I just by the kits instead of pads and magnets? Thank you

Thanks for the photo, and you are correct, you do indeed have a Dexter 7,000 lb axle, and are also correct regarding the shoes and magnets for Dexter 7k electric brakes, the Replacement Shoe # DX28FR and Replacement Magnet # BP01-225.

That said, replacing the entire electric brake assembly is a good idea, and what you need for your Dexter 7k axle is the following:

- Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-180-181

- Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies # BRKH12

With new brake assembles not only is everything going to be brand new, the cost (as you have seen) of replacement parts is often very close or more than new brakes, and it's also simpler to just swap to new assemblies instead of installing each replacement component.
