Will The TracONE # TH27000XT-TA Allow Me To Carry Heavy Loads without Drilling Into My 2008 Tacoma?

Question:

I want a rack that allows me to carry heavy loads of lumber - say, 10foot 2x10s or 10foot 8x8s sill beams. Is this strong enough, and, is it true I can install it myself without having to drill holes or otherwise physically modify the truck?

Yes, the Thule TracRac TracONE Ladder Rack for Toyota Tacoma # TH27000XT-TA will allow you to carry 10-foot long heavy loads of lumber up to 800 pounds on your 2008 Toyota Tacoma. The TracONE is constructed of 6000-series aluminum construction that is definitely strong enough to withstand heavy lumber loads. Also, the included load stops will allow you to keep your cargo from shifting during transport. As far as installation, you will not need to drill or physically modify your truck because the TracONE clamps onto your factory track system on your truck bed. If you need tie-downs, I recommend the Thule Load Strap Cinch Straps w/ Padded Cam Buckles - 15' # TH523.

It is important to note that the TracONE # TH27000XT-TA is only designed to fit 2008 Toyota Tacomas with Deck Rail Systems.

If you have a 2008 Tacoma without the deck rail system, I recommend the T-Rac Pro2 Ladder Rack for 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma - Fixed Mount # TH37004XT. One of the benefits of the T0-Rac Pro2 (apart from the load stops) is the weight capacity. It comes with a maximum load rating of 1,000 pounds. With the T-Rac-Pro2, you will most likely have to arrange your lumber so that there is minimal overhang on the front end due to the 25-3/8 inch height. This will ensure that there will be no interference with your truck's cab. For load straps, I recommend the same Thule Load Strap Cinch Straps w/ Padded Cam Buckles - 15' # TH523.
