Orientation Of Bulldog Gooseneck To 5TH Wheel Adapter On Trailer and Lube Plate Recommendation

Question:

I noticed in the pictures and video the leading edge of the bottom plate was not rotated to allow the area of the plate that was broke to contact the fifth wheel hitch squarely thereby allowing a smooth transition between the plate and hitch when backing under a trailer. Will redrilling the holes to correct this cause any warranty issues. My trailer has a Bulldog hitch that is drilled 90 degrees from the trailer centerline. Is the use of an rv lube plate advised on this unit?

The Bulldog Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Coupler Adapter - Inner Tube # BD0289640300 is designed to be a replacement for their Bulldog Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Coupler Adapter # BD0289580300 which does have the pin hole located 15 degrees off center of your 90 degree coupler. If you were to drill new holes for your specific trailer that has the pin holes at 90 degrees this will cause the warranty to be void due to modification of the product by someone other than the manufacturer.

You will still be able to use this adapter without issues on your trailer and with your 5th wheel hitch. Remember that like the leading edge of this adapter your 5th wheel hitch will also have a leading edge which will allow for the trailer to still slide into the 5th wheel jaws.

I highly recommend using a Lube Plate # RP83001 as this will allow for the hitch to slide easily onto the locking pin and make turns much quieter. Plus when you remove your hitch you do not have to worry about the messy grease getting all over everything. Grease also attracts and holds dirt which can cause damage to the hitch as well.
