Adapters Needed For A Reese Tow Bar To Demco Base Plate On A 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

I have a Reese tow bar that I want to use on the front of my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. I found the base plate but when I look at the adapters to hook the tow bar up they look wrong. My tow bar has two horizontal pins that connect on my other plates I have used, but all of your adapters look like the pins go in vertically. Do I have to disassembly my tow bar to mount the adapters or am I missing something? Base plate DM9518010

To attach your Reese tow bar to the Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518010 you were looking at you would need the an adapter # DM9523015. You'll remove the connectors from your tow bar (pictured below) and install the adapters in their place. The adapters will simply slide into the tabs of the base plate and then you'll just need to slide the locking pins through the base plate tabs and adapters.

To flat tow your 2001 Jeep Cherokee you'll also need a tow bar wiring kit, braking system, and safety cables. I have the following recommendations for you below:

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. This diode Kit allows you to use your Jeep Cherokee's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. It is a one time install instead of having to run magnetic lights to the rear of your vehicle every time you want to tow.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39524. This system offers intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking using the remote conveniently from your RV.

Safety Cables: Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 7,500lbs - Qty 2 # BX88196. The coiled design will help prevent the cables from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
