Recommended 4 Bike Platform Rack For 2021 Tesla Model Y

Question:

I have a Tesla Model Y with OEM hitch. I have spent a lot of time researching a 4 bike platform option and keep coming back to the Saris SuperClamp EX 4-Bike. The low vertical weight limit is an issue with the Model Y OEM hitch as is the tight space of the hitch pin and electrical connector. Do you have experience with this rack on. a Model Y? Any suggestions? Can the hitch pin that comes with the Saris be threaded in from the right/passenger side? The lock on a locking pin needs to be at a right angle also. Thanks

The Saris SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # SA4026F is a very high quality bike rack with a lot of nice features, such as the tilting mechanism to allow access to the trunk on most vehicles. This carrier weighs 63lbs, so if you are worried that you won't have much more weight that can be added due to the low vertical load limit on your OEM hitch, then a better option may be the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches # HR4000 which only weighs 42lbs. This is a really popular option that uses soft cradles that attach to the bike frame instead of attaching to the wheels, making it compatible with just about any bike design including those with fenders.

We have not had the chance to test either of these bike racks on the Tesla Model Y. The anti-rattle hitch lock on the Saris can only be threaded in from the driver side which puts the yellow lock on the passenger side. The Hollywood Racks carrier is opposite; it has a bolt that threads in from the passenger side, putting the small lock on the driver side. It seems like the Hollywood Racks Destination would be a better fit for you; I attached a demonstration video for you to check out.
