Troubleshooting Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller That Wont Power On After Installing On 2018 E350
Question:
trying to install the prodigy P2 controller on my 2018 ford E350 class C rv when the controller is plugged into the harness behind the coin holder and the rv is off there is not a display on the controller and if i try starting the rv it will not start. if i have the rv running and then plug in the controller there is still no display on the controller and the rv dash lights up every light on the dash and the odometer has only dashes ie displaying what am i not doing or doing wrong thank you

I confirmed that the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 and the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3034-P are what you need for your 2018 Ford E350, so make sure you are using these. This is not a common issue, but there are a few things you can check to verify what might be going on. I attached a link that goes over troubleshooting brake controllers that you can also check out.
The brake controller should not prevent the vehicle from starting so this leads me to believe something is hooked up incorrectly or the harness on the vehicle or controller side could be faulty. Use a circuit tester such as # PTW2992 and probe the individual pins on the vehicle's brake controller harness. Make sure you are getting power on one pin when the vehicle ignition is on and also getting power on one pin only when the brakes are applied (see Method 1 on attached link).
If the method above checks out good then your brake controller or controller's harness could be faulty or incorrect for the vehicle. If the method above does not check out good then you will want to trace the vehicle's controller harness and make sure there are not any shorts in the circuits and check fuses and grounds. I recommend taking your vehicle to an auto repair shop if further diagnostics are required for your vehicle's electrical system.
