How to Determine if Trailer Has Self-Adjusting Brake Assemblies

Question:

How can I tell if my existing brakes are self adjusting? I have tandem Dexter axles, 10inch x 2-1/4 electric brakes on a 2004 Skyline Aljo M250 lite. I dont want to keep messing with adjusting if I dont have to, so would be buying new self adjusting brakes if I dont already have them. Thanks.

If your current brake assemblies are self-adjusting, once the hub/drum is removed you will be able to see the adjuster cable extending across the brake assembly as shown in the photo I have edited for you.

If you find you do not have them, you can certainly replace your existing brake assemblies. You will need to initially adjust the brake assemblies, but after that they will be self adjusting. I have linked you to a video showing how to adjust brake assemblies, click the link and fast forward to the 1:50 mark.

If you have a 3500 lb axle, and your existing brake shoes are 10 x 2-1/4 inches, the # 23-468 Left Hand Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly you referenced would work very well for you. You would also need the # 23-469 right hand assembly.
