For your 2006 Element, you will need to use a hardwired converter, like part # 119178KIT. The converter will tap into the factory wiring harnesses feeding your taillight assemblies. The best place to tap the wiring in would be directly behind the tail light assemblies. You would use the circuit tester included with the kit to probe the wires feeding each taillight assembly to determine which wire carries which circuit.

Activate the left turn signal, and then probe the wires feeding the left taillight. Using the point on the end of the tester, pierce the insulation of each wire so that the probe touches the copper wiring inside. When you find the wire that makes the tester blink, use the one of the wire taps included in the kit to tap the yellow wire into that circuit. Then, turn on the running lights and probe the wires. When you locate the correct wire, tap the brown wire into that circuit. Have a helper pump the brake pedal, and probe the remaining wire looking for the brake light circuit. When you find it, tap the red wire into it. Ground the white wire to the vehicle, then run the green wire across to the passenger side. You will probably need to remove the threshold in order to run the wire behind it. Turn on the right turn signal, and probe the wires until the tester blinks, then tap the green wire into that circuit.

The Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness you mentioned, part # 118465 is a fit for the 2007-2011 Honda Element only, and would unfortunately not fit your 2006 model.

I have linked you to a video showing the 119178KIT being installed. The video shows the installation being performed on a different vehicle, but the procedure for your vehicle would be fairly similar.
