What Grease Should Be Used In Trailer Hub When Current Grease Complex Is Unknown

Question:

Hello I have recently purchase a DK2 trailer and I am planning on a long road trip with it. I saw that DK2 recommended to add wheel bearing grease prior to use. I see an expert response from Jason S. advising you can add any standard high temperature grease like # L11465 or # L11380. My question is, is it ok to mix this grease with the factory grease inside the bearings and hubs? I have reached out to DK2 directly and they could not give me an answer. Additionally they could not tell me what grease they use inside the bearings/hubs. I really appreciate your help! Thank You!

That will really depend on the bearing grease used in the hubs of your Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer # K2MMT5X7.

Typically manufacturer's of utility trailers use a standard grease like the # L11465 or # L11380 you saw mentioned, but this grease is only compatible with polyurea based conventional greases.

What I recommend instead is since DK2 is unable to provide the complex of the factory grease, Remove the hubs and clean out all of the factory grease.

Once that is done then replace the grease with Lithium Complex grease like the # L11390 as it is compatible with the vast majority of grease complexes, and that way you will 100% know what kind of grease can be added to the hubs without having to worry about mixing incompatible greases together.

I included a video of the # L11390 for you to take a look at.
