Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2017 Ram 1500 Longhorn

Question:

Hello - can you please help me with exactly which components I will need to flat tow a 2017 Ram 1500 Longhorn behind my Winnebago Forza? We already have the Blue Ox Alpha 2 tow bars so we just need to know what other pieces are needed. Thank you!

The curb weight I'm seeing for your 2017 Ram 1500 Longhorn is 5,700lbs so you'll want to be careful not to load up your truck and exceed the 6,500lbs weight capacity of your Blue Ox Alpha 2 tow bar # BX7380. To flat tow your vehicle you'll also need tow bar wiring, a base plate, a braking system, and safety cables. I have the following recommendations for you below:

Tow bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-154. This wiring kit will splice into your vehicle's wiring to use the tail lights to signal instead of having to run a magnetic light to the rear of the vehicle every time you need to tow.

Base Plate: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # BLU74FR. These base plates will attach to your tow bar with no adapter needed and the removable arms provide a clean and unobtrusive look when not in use.

Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39524. This system provides intense, emergency braking or steady, smooth braking in a single portable system. Easily switch between proportional or full braking and change settings from your RV using the remote. This also comes with a charge line kit that will keep your vehicle's battery charged while you tow.

Safety Cables: You should already have some safety cables with you tow bar but if you ever need some in the future I recommend the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 7,500lbs - Qty 2 Item # BX88196. The coiled design will prevent the cables from dragging on the ground and being damaged.
