Using An RV Water Pump For A Cottage Shower And Sink
Question:
Do you have recommendations for using your pump when drawing water from a lake to supply a cottage shower/sink that requires constant pressure/flow since a camping on demand water heater is utilized? The cottage is about 12 feet above the lake level. Im guessing I need to get the pump as close to the lake as possible. Do I need a foot valve? The pump will come on when a valve is open. If I dont have a foot valve, will the pump have to prime itself each time the valve is opened? Are garden hoses acceptable or do I need larger diameter tubing? Thanks much for you insight and help.

You could use the Seaflo Diaphragm Pump for Boats and RVs - Variable Flow - Up to 3.3 GPM - 1/2" MPT - 115V AC Item # SE96FR to pump water to your cottage. It has a self a self priming design that will allow up to 6' of lift so you will need to have it pretty close to the water. The built-in pressure switch starts and stops the pump when faucet is opened and closed and 3-Chamber diaphragm provides high-volume water flow to up to 2 fixtures. You will need to run 115VAC to power the pump. I've seen people use a plastic container to create a water proof housing for the pump but you'll also need to make sure there is still adequate ventilation for the pump. This pump has 1/2" MPT fittings so you can attach a garden hose to those to run to the cottage. Keep in mind that any water lines that clear and allow light in will grow algae and that this pump filter only blocks large particles from damaging the pump and does not make this water drinkable.
