Troubleshooting Curt Echo Brake Controller With No Power On a 2021 Ford Ranger Factory Tow Package
Question:
I purchased a Curt Echo for my 2021 Ford ranger and when I set it up the app cant find the TBC. It looks like when its plugged into the 7 pin that it isnt getting power. I tried putting the truck in tow/haul mode thinking that might send power to the unit with no luck. Am I missing something really obvious?

After speaking to Ford they instructed that your 2021 Ford Ranger should be ready to go without needing to activate tow/haul mode on your Ranger. As you do not have power going to your 7-way blade connector you will want to check the fuse and wiring for power.
The 30-amp fuse that controls the power going to your 7-way connector is in the battery fuse compartment. It is in position 73. You can remove the fuse and inspect for any damage. If there is not a fuse you will need to provide a new fuse. A Circuit Tester # PTW2992 can be used to ensure you have power on both sides of the fuse as well.
If the fuse is good you will want to test for power at the 7-way to confirm that you did not receive a damaged Curt Echo # C51180. This will be the terminal at the 1 o'clock position looking into the connector on your Ranger. If you have power and insert the Curt Echo and no lights are on the Echo it is faulty. If you have no power at the connector you can attempt to trace the wiring behind the connector to determine if you loose power at a connector. As it is new I would let Ford replace any damaged connectors or parts you find in the harness.
