How to Install a New Side-Door Bar Lock Assembly # 305736
Question:
Ive received my side door lock bar and am curious how to intall the hinged portion of the bar? The hardware for the door is straight-forward, with the holes going right through and a capture hardware in the installation bag. For the hinge mounting, I only received what appears to be a slightly tapered 3/8 - 16 non-tamper torex bolt.... What am I supposed to do to prep the mounting location and have a thread for this tapered bolt? Ive viewed other trailers and it is not a pass-through mount as the door is...

Installing the Hinges on your Side-Door Bar Lock Assembly, item # 305736, is pretty much up to you and the construction of your trailer. You will need to purchase appropriate hardware to install the Side-Door Bar Lock that you purchased. It is best if you can find a sound structural support in the trailer framing to bolt the Side-Door Bar Lock to and still allow the bar to make contact with the face of the door.
I have posted a photo of the # 305736 Side-Door Bar Lock, installed on another customers trailer for you to check out. He used carriage bolts to install the Side-Door Bar Lock. The # 305736 Side-Door Bar Lock has square bolt holes to accommodate carriage bolts. On this customers trailer he opted to install the Side-Door Bar Lock a bit farther out to the side of the door, so that he caught a good structural support inside the trailer. Normally the Side-Door Bar Lock is installed so that the bar itself rests on the door face, making for a more secure closure.
