Troubleshooting OL Code on Curt Triflex Brake Controller
Question:
Hello I have OL showing on my controller when I apply the break but it is not every single time. When I apply the break and it reaches the Set power 5.0 sometimes I have OL show up and seems like the trailer brake is released.. Is it still safe to drive the trailer??

The OL showing on your # C24VV Curt Triflex Brake Controller indicates that there is an overload error. If this problem is causing your brakes to fail I recommend not towing the trailer until you can fix the problem or find a replacement if necessary.
To test the brake controller I would start by severing the blue output wire near the brake controller. Make sure you leave enough room to reconnect the wire and apply the slide-bar manual override. You will need a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 Hook Probe Circuit Tester. There should be output to the controller side of the severed wire.
Assuming the manual slide works the next step is to try the brake pedal. If the brake pedal activates the brake output properly there is a different problem. If one of these does not work, test the wires going into the controller. There should be power entering the controller on the black wire and the red wire should have power when the brake pedal is pressed. It is also important to make sure that the controller is properly grounded.
If you find that the connections are good it is possible that the problem is with the brake controller.
I have attached a helpful video explaining how to test wiring on a brake controller for your reference.
