Is A Tonneau Cover With Tracks For A Ladder Rack Compatible With A 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a fifth wheel and the last tonneau covers rails would hit the hitch when turning tight corners. Your description says the top in flush with the truck rails but the picturess show the tonneau rails sitting on top of the truck rail. How high is the Explorer rail system over the top of the rail?

The Pace Edwards JackRabbit Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover w Explorer Rails - Aluminum and Vinyl - Black, part # PE76CV, does sit a bit more than an inch above the top of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500. Unfortunately, that is going to be the case with all of the Pace Edwards tonneau covers. Due to its higher profile, you still will have to be careful while turning tight corners. You could adjust the pin height but you will need to make sure you do not raise it so much that it will put the rear of your camper close to the ground. This may cause it to drag on hills. It may also cause clearance issues with your 5th wheel hitch and your tonneau cover.

A better option may be the BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover - Roll Up - Aluminum and Vinyl, part # BAK39133. It is a roll up tonneau cover that sits flush with your truck bed, so you will be able to use your 5th wheel hitch with no issues. Since this tonneau cover installs sits inside your truck bed rails you can use any ladder rack that installs in the stake pockets.

The Base Rails for Thule TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Racks, part # TH33JV and the Thule TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Rack for Full-Size Pickups - 1,250 lbs. part # TH43002XT, when combined make a ladder rack that is rated to carry 1250lbs. This tracks on this ladder rack install in the stake pockets of the truck bed. Each of the ladder rack legs slide independently of the other. So both legs can be moved all the way to the bed head of your 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500. You have to remove the rails of the rack in order for your 5th wheel hitch to work, but you will still have the use of your tonneau cover.
