Troubleshooting Issues With A Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking Systems

Question:

I just installed your brake Buddy stealth braking system in my 2007 FJ cruiser it has electric full-time brakes with no vacuum booster the system seems to work mostly correct but Im still having some issues first of all when disconnecting the seven way plug from the vehicle it applies the brake like its supposed to and then when I replace the filler plug or the 7 way plug it releases the brake like its supposed to but I must power cycle the unit using the toggle switch I installed to get it to work again it just shows a red light steady on the breaking unit in the truck and a cu check unit in the motorhome this doesnt seem correct you shouldnt have to power cycle the unit every time you use The other issue I have it doesnt seem to be proportionally braking the towed The head unit in the motorhome is properly mounted. I set the power setting all the way to down to 10 the lowest setting and the sensitivity unit to various settings it applies the brakes hard all the time with a delay and releases one second delay after I release the brake peddle. I s it possible adjust the cable with more slack so it doesnt push the brake pedal down so far I dont seem to be able to make it gently apply the brakes no matter what setting I have it at

If you already trimmed the excess cable off when installing the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39530 you might not have enough to add more slack to the line. Around the 8 minute mark of the attached video David explains installing the cable and adjusting it to the correct length. The cable being too tight would cause your issues with the hard braking.

The issues with proportional braking can be attributed to the controller not being mounted at a level angle. The system activates by inertia so if the controller isn't level it could not be feeling the inertia and kicking on.

I spoke with the manufacturer and was told you'll need to pull the fuse for the system every time you are done towing so it seems that you will unfortunately have to power cycle the unit every time.
