When to Replace Hitch Pin
Question:
Hello, I tow a Springdale Mini 18, 4500 lbs. I use a weight distribution, anti-sway device Anderson 3380. My hitch pin is showing some oxidation and there is some modest friction when sliding it into position. After my last trip, I noticed the clip on my hitch pin was showing some bending. I wondering in the two are related. Should I be greasing my hitch pin? What is the use life expectancy of a hitch pin and a clip?

Minor corrosion can be addressed with cleaning and coating the pin to prevent further issue but if your pin is bent I suggest you replace it.
As for the useable life of a hitch pin, that cannot be established due to too many variable such as environmental conditions, and use during time frame. To put a definitive length of time toward usability is difficult however, if you have damage in any way, including bending, I would immediately replace before it possibly fails.
We have a wide selection of pins available including locking type. You probably have a 5/8" pin but you should verify. And you will need to identify the length needed. A good price point option is the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # e98881. Please note the attached link to product review video.
