Transmission/Oil Cooler Recommendation for 2012 GMC Yukon XL
Question:
I am towing a 7,000 pound camper trailer and my Transmission and engine are getting warm. Nothing too crazy but i would like to add additional cooler to the transmission for sure. Is there anything else that i can do to keep the engine a little cooler as well? With the addition of something along these lines would a tuner help with towing as well? Any suggestions on a tuner if you recommend one? Thanks!

I'd recommend a combination transmission/oil cooler like the Derale # D15902. The cooler would mount just behind the grille in front of the radiator. The transmission circuit would tap into the return line from the radiator to the transmission, and the oil circuit would tap in via a sandwich adapter that installs between the oil filter and the filter landing on the engine. The kit includes the cooler, the hoses, the fittings and the sandwich adapter. Also recommended is the # D13035 fitting which will allow you to tap into the transmission return line without cutting anything. The sandwich adapter provides several different fittings for the oil filter, you'll need the 22mm x 1.5mm.
For a tuner, the Edge Evolution CTS3, part # EP39YR is what I'd recommend using as it has a dedicated towing power level that will alter the shift points for more efficient towing.
Between the cooler installation and using the tuner to maximize engine performance and transmission shift points, your Yukon XL towing performance will show a definite improvement.
I've linked to some install videos and help articles that will assist you.
