Replacement Gearbox for an LG-4 Landing Gear That is Having Trouble Lifting and Retracting

Question:

I have a 2011 Montana Mountaineer 347THT. When raising the nose with I get a rapid clicking noise and the gear will stop raising. I was told by a local RV dealer the motor was bad so I ordered a new motor and replaced it only to find the clicking noise still there and having difficulty raising the nose. The crank worked fine if I choose to hand crank it up. I am wondering what would be the appropriate fix. This issue remains when plugged into power as well, and not on battery.

From what you are describing, it sounds a lot more like your gearbox is the problem. Especially if replacing the motor didn't get you back up and working properly. I will say that is a little odd that the manual cranking works without issue, but I am still going to steer you towards a new gearbox. If it was something internal in the actual leg, you would hear the noise and have issues regardless of how you lift or retract.

So with all that being said, the gearbox I suggest is the Stromberg Carlson Replacement Aluminum Gearbox # LG-179015. This is a direct replacement for the # LG-4, which was commonly used on the Montana trailers.

If this does not fix it, let me know and I can find some replacements for the internals on the legs. This should get you up and running though.
