Can a 2018 Ram 2500 with Rambox Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins with the Ram Boxes. Although I have no puck system installed, I have been told by my truck dealer they can install the puck, the 5 wheel hitch and order me the sidewinder to pull a 5th wheel. My issue with this situation is the RV place does not recommend replacing the 5th wheel hitch. I am wondering if it’s more cost effective to install a rail system, 5th wheel hitch then an after marker replacement on the provided hitch on the 5th wheel with an Resse revolution hitch. I’m open to all options or opinions. I own the truck described with out any puck or rail currently but I am having hard time deciding on which system is the most effective/ safe.

Yes, you can haul a 5th wheel trailer with your 2018 Ram 2500 that has the Ramboxes with proper set-up. You will needed to install a Sidewinder or other rotating type pin box on the trailer so that the pivot point is raised up. You need to eliminate the interference between the pin box and the truck bed rails when turning.

You can then use something such as the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, 16K, # RP30047, or whatever properly matched weight rating you need, along with the Reese Base Rails, # RP50054-58 along with a properly matched wedge such as # SWW-03. Or have the puck system installed. The advantage to going with the puck system instead of above bed rails is the unobstructed use of the bed when not using the 5th wheel. If cost is your concern then the above bed rails will have a lower price point. As for safety, they are equivalent if properly installed.
