Can Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used With Trailer With Tongue Weight Exceeding The Hitches Rating?

Have a weight distribution hitch that was set up with 1200lb trunnions bars the hitch head said rated for 12,000lb trailer and 1200 max tounge weight, have a new trailer had to upgrade to 1500lb Trunnions Bars is the hitch head ok my tongue weight is at 1240 lbs trailer weight fully loaded is 11,414

Since the weight distribution hitch head you have is only rated to 1200lbs tongue weight, then you will need to either reduce the tongue weight of your trailer below 1200lbs, or will need to replace the hitch with one that is rated above 1200lbs.
For a system rated over 1200lbs I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 14,000 lbs GTW, 1,400 lbs TW # EQ37140ET which works with tongue weights between 1000-1400lbs and would be perfect for your tongue weight.
