Flat Towing Equipment Recommendations For A 2018 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am wondering if this product would be suitable for towing it? I am also curious about configuring this product to a different vehicle as I plan on selling the Jeep in a few months. Would I need to get special fittings for different vehicles? And is it fairly easy to adapt to a different vehicle?

Before flat towing any vehicle you must review your owner's manual to ensure it is capable of flat towing and what steps need to be taken to get your vehicle ready to flat tow. 2WD vehicles can't be flat towed and have to instead be dolly towed with a dolly like the Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly w/ Disc Brakes - Tilt Bed Frame - 4,800lbs - Wide Tread # DM9713093.
You'll be able to use the same tow bar on your next vehicle as long as it falls under the weight capacity of the tow bar. I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000lbs
Item # RM-522. It has a non-binding feature that makes unhooking the arms from the base plates easy on uneven surfaces.
The base plates are a custom fit for your vehicle so they may not fit the next one and would require you to purchase new ones and you'll want to stick with the same brand as the tow bar to avoid having to possibly purchase adapters. I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521447-5 or the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-521446-5 if you have the Trailhawk edition.
Since you'll be replacing the towed vehicle soon I recommend just using the Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights Item # RM-2120. Once you do if you plan on keeping the new vehicle for a long time and don't want the hassle of running the magnetic lights every time you tow then I recommend getting the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-154. It will splice into your vehicle's wiring and use the tail lights to signal instead of magnetic ones.
For your braking system I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System - Proportional
Item # BLU37TR. This portable system only has one wire (the breakaway switch) to run through your vehicle and you'll be able to remove it and use again on your next vehicle.
For safety cables I also recommend the coiled design like the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs Item # RM-643 to help prevent damage due to dragging on the ground.
