Flat Towing Package for 2014-2018 Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee is a popular flat tow vehicle because it offers a great combination of family car and adventure vehicle. Having the room you need to bring along the kids and all of your gear once you reach your destination helps make the adventure possible.

There are a few extra components needed and some special installation steps required to set up your Cherokee for flat towing. The following article will cover these, as well as the base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, and supplemental braking system needed to tow your vehicle behind your motorhome. These steps and components are required for both the standard 4-wheel-drive and Trailhawk models of the Cherokee.

Note that front-wheel-drive models and models with 1-speed power transfer units are not able to be safety flat towed. Also note that, although there are no distance or speed restrictions when flat towing the Cherokee, you will need to purchase and install a flat-tow wiring kit from your local Mopar dealer before flat towing the vehicle.

Thank you Kyle for a thorough answer to my flat tow needs on 2017 Trailhawk. One issue remains a little murky: do I use a brake light relay or a brake light switch kit? My brake lights activate with ignition off, but I would think that wouldn't change car to car within the year range? Thanks again.

I did some research and found that the Stop Light Switch Kit # 751471 is indeed required for your 2017 Jeep Cherokee Traillhawk.
