Are There Trailer Mounted Camera Systems That Will Work with My Trucks Factory Infotainment System

Question:

Good Morning. I just purchased a 2021 RAM 3500 Limited DRW and was trying to get my Wireless backup camera system to connect to the Uconnect to display on my 12inch display system. RAM informed me that they do have a trailering camera system but it is hardwired, which would mean I would have to wire every camper I get. I dont want to have to hardwire connections between the camper and truck. Here is the question. Is there a way to connect the wireless Camper system to my Uconnect system? My truck has the Rear view mirror that you can display the backup camera in the bed of the truck, it would be great if I could add an additional connection to that and change to the trailer camera when I am towing! Any Help?

I may have a solution for you to add a wireless camera system to monitor behind your trailer but there is not a trailer mounted system that exists that will be able to transmit to an in-dash factory system; any trailer mounted system will require some sort of external monitor.

I'll also note that any camera system would need to be wired for power, which might have been what they were referring to when they mentioned "hard-wiring". During installation on the back of the trailer most people tap into the reverse light or running light circuit depending on when they want the system to turn on.

With that said, the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System with 5.6" Monitor # RVS-7706033 you were looking at would be a fine choice for a wireless camera system. This comes with a 5.6" LCD color monitor and suction cup mount, so it will mount reasonably anywhere on the windshield.

If you wanted something that comes with a bit larger monitor our most popular system, and my recommendation, is the Furrion Vision S Wireless RV Backup Camera System w/ Night Vision - Rear Mount - 5" Screen # FOS05TASF. The Furrion is what most new trailers are coming pre-wired for currently so if you were to get a new camper in the near future, you'd likely be able to swap the camera over easily.

I've linked a review video of the Furrion system for you to check out if you'd like.
