Which Torx Trailer Deck Screws for 2 x 6 Floor Boards

Question:

I have a gooseneck I need to replace the 2X6 floor boards. The boards sit on 4inch channel iron beneath floor upright, will the screws have any issue ringing off in that think steel if I drill the 7/32 pilot hole? If not should I purchase the 2 1/2inch length to be on the safe side or should the 1 1/2inch be long enough?

Expert Reply:

Since a 2x6 board is about 1-1/2 inches thick, I don't think using 1-1/2" Long Torx Trailer Floor and Wall Liner Screw for ACQ Treated Wood # TFX150ACQ is going to provide sufficient contact with the trailer frame. For that reason I recommend going with the 2-1/4" # TFX225ACQ or 2-1/2" long # TFX250ACQ, which will give you enough screw to install into the steel. You will still want to drill pilot holes for this application, as you've noted.
