What Is The Largest Roof Box That I Can Fit On A 2020 Honda CR-V With Factory Crossbars?

Question:

Our CRV has factory installed crossbars and the fixed in place front crossbar is located 48" from where the roof ends and the trunk lid starts. Given the 48" dimension provided above, which cargo boxes (largest capacity available) will fit my car?

When determining which cargo box will fit the roof of your 2020 Honda CR-V, it really comes down to the hatch clearance. You will want to measure from the center of your front crossbar all the way to the line where the hatch and trunk meet. If your measurement is 55" or more then you can go with the extra large Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 22 cu ft - Titan Glossy # TH629907. If your measurement is 57" or more then you can install the extra large Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box - 21 cu ft - Black Carbonite # Y07337. In case you don't have this much hatch clearance, I attached a link to the available roof boxes that you can look at. You can narrow your search by clicking on 'large capacity' or 'medium capacity' and then click on a roof box and scroll down to where it shows the rear hatch clearance information.

Since your hatch clearance is 48", I recommend going with Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Matte Black # TH615 which needs at least 46-1/2" to clear the trunk. This is the largest Thule roof box that will comfortably fit your roof. For Yakima, you can look into the Yakima SkyBox 16 Roof Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Black Carbonite # Y07335 or Yakima CBX Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 Cubic Ft - Black # Y66FR as both of these require a minimum of 45" to clear the trunk. Both offer 16 cu ft of storage space, but I like the looks of the Black Carbonite # Y07335 more and this is also the more affordable option compared to the Yakima CBX.
