If you turn off the truck and there is no movement sensed by the brake controller, it will show a blank display which means it is in power saving mode. I recommend turning off the truck and walking away from it for at least 15 minutes then come back and peek in the window to determine if it has indeed turned itself off.
If it has not then there is something drawing power making the brake controller think it needs to be on. A dirty or corroded trailer connector could cause this problem. If you sever the blue wire a few inches from the back of the brake controller and test the end coming from the controller with a circuit tester, like # PTW2979 if needed, the wire should not show power unless you apply the manual override.
If it does show power then there is something wrong inside the controller and it will need to be replaced.
