Which Tow Bar Is Best For Mostly Uneven Terrain Use The Roadmaster Sterling or Blackhawk 2

Question:

Hi, So for overall strength and durability which of these units would be a better choice? If we are hauling over uneven ground the stresses would be higher than towing on a flat surface, and Im wondering if the steel of the Blackhawk would be better than the Aluminum construction of the Sterling model. Do you know the weight difference between the two units? Ive seen a specification of 35lbs for the Sterling, but no weight listed for the Blackhawk unit. Im aware the Blackhawk is pull rated at 10K lbs. where the Sterling is 8K lbs. This is a follow up question for the one I put in on flat towing my 1999 Toyota 4Runner. Thanks,

In my professional opinion, for your situation with traveling more on uneven terrain with your 1999 Toyota 4Runner, I would go with the Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Item # RM-422. I think the steel construction will withstand more pressure. That being said it is steel and is prone to corrosion over time. Also it is going to be heavier being steel. I don't know the exact weight but with my hands on experience using, testing, and installing it, I would guestimate it being somewhere between 42lb and 50lbs. With this tow bar you will have to pick up safety cables.

The Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Item # RM-576 comes with safety cables.
