You can flat tow your front wheel drive 2009 Ford Flex with your RV. Before flat towing any vehicle, you should check your owners manual for any restrictions or procedures that required to flat tow your vehicle. To flat tow your Flex, you will need 5 items, a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, tail light wiring and a supplemental braking system.

For a base plate kit, you can use the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, # 4418-1, that you referenced. This base plate kit has removable arms and is compatible with most Roadmaster tow bars. The tow bar that I would recommend for your vehicle is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520. This tow bar has a 6,000 lb weight capacity and the curb/dry weight of your Ford Flex is around 4,500 lbs, so, even with additional cargo loaded in your vehicle, this tow bar should work well for you.

You can use the Roadmaster 6,000 lb Safety Cables, # RM-643, with this tow bar as well.

For tail light wiring, you have several options. If you want a temporary tail light solution, you can install the Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, # RM-2120. These lights attach using magnets and are easily installed and removed. If you will be towing frequently or want a more permanent solution, I recommend the Tow Ready Diode System, # TR118821. This kit will hard wire into your vehicle's tail light circuits and uses your vehicles tail lights when towing.

Finally, you will want a supplemental braking system. Most states now require the use of a supplemental braking system when flat towing. For your vehicle, I recommend looking at the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Braking System, # RM-8700. This system will only need to be installed once and does not need to be adjusted or set each time you want to tow.
