Brake Controller Parts Required for Installation on 2007 Ford F-150 with Factory 7-Way

Question:

Hi, I have a 2007 Ford F-150 4.6L with Factory 4-pin socket and a 5000# rated bumper. I have a 4 to 7 pin plug in adapter. I have a class 3 receiver hitch on the way to install. I am buying a 2019 Jayco Jay Flight 3100# w/brakes Can you please help me with the following questions: 1 I need the least expensive proportional brake controller you sell and from what I can tell the wiring adapter. MAIN/MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: If I get these do I need any kind of electronic re-programming done? I have seen a lot of posts where part of installing the OEM brake controller includes having the dealer modify an electronic setting. 2 Will I need any type of oil or transmission cooler with the pairing above? 3 Can I tow the trailer a short distance on level ground without brakes. I may need to from the sellers house to my location. I know it would not be recommended, but will it do any damage to the trailer or brakes. Thank you some much for your valuable help!

The Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 and Pigtail # 3035-P will be what you need to install the brake controller inside your 2007 Ford F-150. I have linked a video below of a similar install on a 2009 Ford F-150 with your same wiring setup.

You will need some additional Wire # 10-2-1 to complete the install on the rear of your F-150 with the Adapter # 37185. No programing will be required by the dealership but you will want to ensure the proper fuses and relays are installed in your fuse panels.

I recommend contacting a Ford dealership with your VIN number as they can tell you your exact towing capacity based on the options that were installed on your specific truck. A oil cooler can be added to your truck to help your components stay cooler when towing but is not necessary.

I highly recommend not towing any distance with trailer without any trailer brakes. This could cause excessive wear on your truck and is a huge safety concern as your stopping distance would be greatly increased with all the extra weight.
