Can The Lockrack Adjustable Watersports Carrier 339-LRUNISETX Hold A 16 Foot Canoe?

Question:

I’m comfortable with the width and weight of my boat working with this rack and the ability of the Outback to handle this rack with the factory crossbars. However, I’ve not seen specs on recommended boat lengths and what works or doesn’t work. This rack doesn’t require straps, which is great, but what about for a 16 foot canoe? Will it still work okay as designed without straps on top of our Outback or would we need to secure the bow and/or stern?

I confirmed with Lockrack that the Lockrack Adjustable XL Watersport Carrier - Canoe, Kayak, or 2 SUPs - Side Loading - Universal Mount # LR54FR is able to hold a 16 foot canoe. Just make sure your canoe is no wider than 48" and is under 175lbs. You would likely be fine without use of straps, although I would probably add some straps for reassurance since it is a rather large boat and Lockrack does suggest adding straps for longer boats. I would use etrailer Kayak Tie-Down Kit # e36ZR since it is a very easy kit that comes with everything you need. I attached demonstration videos for you.
