Can Item # FF30SC15ABL Be Installed Different From The Instructions
Question:
When mounting this in a cabinet. Does it have to be boxed in like the flush mount or can it set on a board and be screwed on the side? Can I just make the opening for the outside dimensions or do I have to have the 2” step in the frame work?

It is recommended to follow the instructions for mounting Item # FF30SC15ABL. There is a flange on the front edge, under the glass, which is what is used to secure the fireplace to the wall. If it is not installed per the instructions it could affect the warranty.
