How To Find The Correct Ball Mount To Tow 2021 Forest River Wolfpup With 2018 Ford F-150 XLT

Question:

I’ve got a 2018 Ford F-150 XLT and a 2021 Forest River Wolfpup that weighs around 3900 lbs. Do you have any suggested ball mounts/balls to use? I was looking at a Brophy class IV. New to the towing game so appreciate any advice. Thanks!

The Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BH20 you were looking at is a great heavy duty ball mount that has a 10000lb towing capcaity which is more than enough for your 2021 Forest River Wolfpup weighing in at 3900lbs, but you will need to measure the hitch height of your 2018 Ford F-150 XLT, and the coupler height of your Wolfpup to confirm that 2" drop or 3/4" rise is going to be enough to tow the trailer level.

Starting with the hitch height you will want to measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the trailer hitch receiver on your F-150. For the coupler height you will want to level the trailer and then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on your trailer.

The difference between these measurements is the rise/drop you will need to tow level. If your hitch height is higher than your coupler height that means you need to use the ball mount in the drop position, and if your coupler height is higher than your hitch height that means you need to use the ball mount in the rise position.

If you only need 2" drop or 3/4" rise the # BH20 will work perfectly, but if you need a different rise/drop I included all of our 2" ball mounts for you to take a look at.

You will also need a hitch ball to match the coupler on your trailer. You can find the correct hitch ball by looking for the number stamped on the coupler of your trailer, though based on the weight of your trailer it more than likely uses a 2" hitch ball.

When selecting a hitch ball you will want to make sure the shank diameter matches the ball hole diameter of the ball mount. For example the # BH20 has a 1-1/4" diameter ball mount hole so you would need to use 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.

I included a link to a helpful article that goes over how to measure for the correct rise/drop, and videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
