Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 Ford Edge with Adaptive Cruise Control

Question:

I am looking to get the Blue Ox tow bar system for my 2012 Ford Edge Limited with the adaptive cruise control. Also looking at the Road Master Invisibrake system. This is all you g to be towed behind a 2017 Thor Quantum WS. It does not have air brakes. I want to make sure this is the correct setup for my rig. Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

A complete flat towing setup consists of base plates, a compatible tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, supplemental braking, and possibly a high/low adapter. It sounds like you've already decided on the Blue Ox base plates # BX2628 and a compatible tow bar that I recommend using with those is the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380 since it comes with safety cables integrated.

If you haven't chosen out a wiring/lighting solution I recommend using the Roadmaster # RM-154 which is a diode wiring kit that will protect your vehicle's electrical system from backfeed, and lets your vehicle lights operate in conjunction with your RV's.

For supplemental braking, the Roadmaster Invisibrake # RM-8700 is a nice choice since it will install out of sight and won't require lengthy setup each time you want to get on the road, like a portable system might. The Invisibrake provides responsive proportional braking for your toad, so you'll get brakes applied in proportion to the way the brakes are applied in your RV, which helps reduce wear and tear on both vehicles. You will also need the Roadmaster Brake Lite Relay # RM-88400 to prevent the brake light from overriding the turn signal.

The last piece of the puzzle is a high/low adapter, which might be required to keep the tow bar level while towing. I've linked a helpful article that explains how to measure to determine if one is needed, as well as our entire selection of adapters for you to choose from if you do need it.

I've also linked some helpful installation and review videos of the parts mentioned above for you. The parts you've chosen will do a great job for you though.
