How Does the Factory Connector on a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Work
Question:
Im confused. How can a 4-pin connector operate a 7-pin plug? How do the trailer brakes, accessory and power lead work?

Expert Reply:
The 4-Pole Trailer Adapter for GM trucks with Factory 7 Way, item # 118384, does not operate a 7-way connector. This item uses the vehicles factory wiring harness which can power a 7-way connector and adapts it to a 4-way connector only.
If you want a 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle you can use, part number 30955 which will give you a 7-way connector and a 4-way connector at the rear of your truck that will be wired from the factory connector that is located above the spare tire.
If you have a factory 7-way trailer connector already installed at the rear of the vehicle and need a 4-way connector you can use the Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket, item # HM40975, to plug into your original wiring connector and you will have both trailer connectors at the rear of the truck.
