5th Wheel Hitch Options for a 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 ft Bed

Question:

I have a pro series 16k 5th wheel I used with my 2001 dodge ram. 6ft bed. I now have a 2005 ford titan w/ a 5.5 bed. do you have a slider that will fit this setup so I can gain some draw? I am pulling a 20ft trailer Thanks

The slider legs for the Pro Series 16K fifth wheel hitch are part # RP50024, however, we do not recommend using a sliding hitch on a truck with a bed shorter than 6 ft. A sliding hitch will not provide enough clearance to safely execute sharp turns on your 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 ft bed.

Instead, I recommend using a fixed fifth wheel hitch and adding a sidewinder pin box to your trailer. A sidewinder pin box will provide an additional 22 inches of clearance allowing you to make sharp turns without your trailer hitting the cab of your truck. I have attached an FAQ article on sidewinders for you to look over.

A sliding fifth wheel hitch will provide some clearance with the 10 inch fore and aft adjustment, but it will not provide enough clearance to prevent your trailer from hitting the cab of your truck. Another factor that you must consider when using a sliding hitch is tailgate contact. When the hitch is slid back for turning situations, the pin box of the trailer could hit the tailgate of your truck. To prevent this we recommend removing your tailgate or replacing your tailgate with a fifth wheel tailgate like part # VG-04-100.

If you need the base rails and frame brackets for your 2005 Ford F-150, then I would recommend the Reese Custom Installation Kit, # RP50081-58.
