Can I Use the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System to Replace 7k Axle on Military Trailer

Question:

Will the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/ Brake Flange - Regular Tires - 7K work with a military m105 trailer? The trailer frame is to narrow for a regular 7k axle because of the spring to hub face measurement. The axle and springs that comes with it make it sit way to high and the hitch is angled down to the truck which in turn brings the rear of the trailer up even higher. The trailer is rated for 7k and I want to retain that and get rid of the old air over hydraulic system and switch to electric.

It sounds like the big issue is the height of the trailer due to the way the axle is configured. You can use the Timbren # TASR7KS01 to replace the axle on your M105 military trailer and judging by the looks of most of these this system should lower your trailer slightly.

When it comes to installing these, there are 3 ways to install the Axle-Less suspension. The easiest method, which is recommended if you are replacing axles on your trailer, is to install a piece of 2" x 3" tubing (sold separately - available at most weld shops) through the integrated holes in the Axle-Less suspension. Then all you need to do is bolt the suspension to the side of the trailer's frame with 3 bolts (not included). The other two methods are available on the product page towards the bottom, and detailed instructions are also linked to this answer.

The correct hubs to use on the # TASR7KS01 will have a # 25580 inner bearing and # 14125A outer bearing; I recommend using the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 7K lb E-Z Lube Axle - 12" - 8 on 6-1/2 - 1/2" Studs # 42866UC3-EZ since they have EZ lube spindles that are easy to keep everything greased up with. For brakes I recommend using the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA because they're self adjusting and won't require any adjusting after installation. These don't come with any mounting hardware so you'll also need # BRKH12 to mount these..

Since you'll be switching to electric brakes you may also need to add a 7 way trailer connector to the trailer; for that I recommend using the # HS381-9000 which comes with a junction wiring box to help make the wiring cleaner. You also may need some 12 gauge wiring # 12-1-1, which is sold by the foot, and some heat shrink butt connectors Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 10 # DW05745-10.

I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to check out, as well.
