Trailer Hitch and 5-Way Trailer Connector for a 2012 Subaru Forester
Question:
I would like to tow my boat trailer with surge brakes with my 2012 Subaru Forester. The trailer has a 5-pin flat connector with the extra pin used to de-activate the trailer brakes when reversing. Please recommend 2inch hitch and a 5-pin wiring solution.

For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame, # 75650. This hitch has a 2 inch receiver like you need. I have included links to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you.
To complete your towing set up I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. it comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.
For a 5-Way trailer wiring harness kit you can use # 119177KIT. I have linked the instructions for this harness for you. The other option is to use harness # 118467 and then add an adapter to make it a 5-Way # 20036. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation of the adapter for you.
