There are 5 items needed to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For base plates for the 2013 Jeep Compass we have # DM9517221 which will work great. These base plates provide a safe and secure connection point for a tow bar.

This set of base plates is compatible with the Demco tow bars. The most popular of these is the Commander # DM9511012. This tow bar also comes with another item you will need, safety cables, also you would not need to purchase those separately.

For lighting there are a few different possibilities. If you will not be towing the vehicle often then I recommend a magnetic kit like # RM-2120. If you will be towing it often then I recommend the bulb and socket kit # RM-155.

Most states now require supplemental braking on a vehicle being flat towed. The easiest systems to set up and use are portable systems like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. It applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if there is any additional information on flat towing the vehicle. I have included some helpful links on flat towing for you.
