Troubleshooting 7 Way Connector On Sprinter Class C RV
Question:
We just equipped our Sprinter Class C to flat tow our Jeep Wrangler...installed a diode wiring kit on the Wrangler 7 blade to 6 pin connection....no lights coming on at all on the Jeep. Purchased the 7 blade tester and all it does is flash the RT-TM-LT lights in unison, regardless of the RV lights...12V indicator never lights up...what does this mean?

When using a 7 pole test such as 7 Way Trailer Connector Vehicle Tester # PK12741, you plug it into the vehicle's 7 way and test each function on the vehicle and the corresponding LED's should illuminate. The RT, TM, and LT you are seeing are right turn signal, tail lights, and left turn signal. The remaining abbreviations are BU for backup lights, BK for brake controller, and 12v for 12V power output. I would start by first checking the owner's manual or contacting a dealer to determine if there is a fuse/relay for the trailer lights.
Clean the 7 way connector and verify there is no debris or dirt in there. Next look for a pinched or exposed wire behind the 7 way. If you cannot find the issue then you will need to probe each wire every few feet to determine where there may be a wiring issue/short. Use a circuit tester like LCD Digital Circuit Tester # PTW2992. If you still cannot find the issue then I recommend taking it to a mechanic as wiring issues can get difficult to find and fix. I have attached demonstration videos for the circuit testers along with a 7 way pinout diagram.
