Can ST205/75R15 Replace 7.00-15LT Tire On Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
I have a 1974 dual axel Prowler Travel Trailer. It currently has 7.00-15lt tires on it very old. I found some WINDA trailer tires ST205/75R15 8PR Load Range D steel belted radial. Are these an acceptable replacement tire? We estimate the trailer is approx 3500lb loaded. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Expert Reply:
The 7.00-15LT tires you have on your 1974 Tandem Axle Travel Trailer are 7.7" wide and 29.3" tall. The ST205/75R15 tires you are looking at are 7.99" wide and 27.13" tall meaning they should fit, but would be quite a bit shorter.
The closest available tire size is the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10256 which is 28.4" tall but is 8.9" wide so you could possibly run into clearance issues depending on your specific trailer. A good rule of thumb is 1" - 2" clearance between the frame of the trailer and the closest part of the tire. As long as you have 2" or more clearance now you shouldn't have any issues.
I included a video of the # AM10256 for you to take a look at.
