When you take the Thule Passage 3 Bike Rack, # TH911XT, out of the box, you will notice that it has six straps. Two upper straps, two side straps and two lower straps. The first step is to place the two upper strap hooks at the top edge of the rear hatch where it meets the roof.

Next, you will want to rest the lower support arm of the bike rack on top of the bumper where the hatch meets the bumper. Hook the lower straps to the bottom edge of the rear hatch. You may have to slightly open the rear hatch for this. Finally, hook the side straps to the side of the hatch near the tail lights.

Keep in mind, the rear wiper cannot be used when the carrier is mounted.

I have attached a link to the installation instructions for this bike rack. You should also note that the weight limit for this bike rack is 105 lbs. for three bikes.

If you plan on carrying any womens, childrens or bikes with alternative frames like step-through, full suspension bikes, then I would recommend picking up the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter, # TH982XT. Bikes with small or angled frames can be difficult to load on a bike rack and this adapter will allow you to load the bikes easily and safely.

I've attached a review video of this bike rack on a newer model Expedition to give you an idea of what it will look like.
